Description
Innovatefil PP-GF by Spanish manufacturer, Smart Materials 3D is a 3D printing filament with a polypropylene base reinforced with a high load of 20% fibreglass, which considerably improves the dimensional stability of the final piece, achieving very good quality finishes. In addition, thanks to incorporating these fibres, we obtain a more rigid material than PP without load, but with enough flexibility to provide high impact, mechanical and thermal resistance.
Polypropylene filament is a new semi-crystalline thermoplastic used in Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF). PP filament has a high level of flexibility. The versatile plastic Polypropylene is used in our everyday lives in the form of packaging, labelling, lab equipment, stationery, and more. One of the most beneficial uses of Polypropylene is to create food-safe containers because Polypropylene filament is odourless and non-toxic. Although Polypropylene is recognized as FDA-safe for food, the inherent process of creating printed objects from current 3D printing standards is most likely not FDA-safe. 3D printers such as those based on the RepRap model will leave printed objects with a porous structure, a perfect growth site for bacteria. Some users have dabbled in sealing printed objects in Polyurethane, but that still wouldn't solve all of the issues with producing food-safe products in current 3D printing standards.
